Web OPAC

What do the ELTC Resource Centre and the IPBA Library have, between them, on teaching vocabulary? Australia? elephants? storytelling? chess?

Do we have the English Language Teaching Journal? Collins Cobuild Dictionary? The Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling?

You can find out by using the WebOPAC. Click here

Getting started

Once on the site, click on the WebOPAC logo and choose whether to do a Leftstring search (when you know the start of the author's name or title) or a Pattern search (when you know some of the words--not necessarily the first one), or are looking up a topic

Then choose whether to do an Author search, a Title Search, a Subject search…, key in the name or word(s) you are looking for and search away. Use the Help button when you want to know more about searching.

Two tips:

Always type just enough to retrieve what you want-but no more. The more you fill in, the more chance there is of a misspelling or some other mismatch with what is on the system. For example:

Behavio will bring up both behavior (US spelling) and behaviour (British spelling). Typing in one of these complete will mean you miss the other.

Similarly, organi will bring up organisation and organization.

Steinbeck will bring up entries typed as Steinbeck, John or Steinbeck, J

If at first you don't succeed, try another approach.

If a leftstring title search doesn't work, try one of the title's keywords as a pattern search. Never give up after one failure to retrieve what you want.

Other uses of the WebOpac

Click on Repository and you'll see the most common subjects users search for.

Click on a subject to get a useful list of titles.

If you belong to the ELTC Resource Centre or IPBA Library, log in to check whether any item is due, or to renew or reserve a title, or make a constructive suggestion.
