An Introduction to Testing and Evaluation for Teachers of English in Primary Schools (Phase II)

Duration
This is a 5-day course equivalent to 30 credit hours.

Pre-Requisite
Only course participants who have successfully completed Phase 1 of the course will be eligible to register for this course.

Rationale
A sound understanding of the basics of testing and evaluation is a prerequisite for any hand-on experience in item-building and test construction - hence the entry requirement for this course. Course participants will engage in a series of practical workshop sessions on test construction and will be provided the opportunity to critically evaluate the work of their peers as well as their own.

Objectives
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
construct and use table of specifications for test construction
build tests to assess different language skills and competences

prepare rubrics and marking schemes

critically evaluate tests and marking schemes designed by peers

Course Content
Course content will include the following:
Preparing Tables of Specification for Tests of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Comprehension, Vocabulary and Grammar for Discrete

Prepare discrete as well as integrative test items and tests papers

Prepare, use and evaluate marking schemes, and rating scales


Assessment
There will be no formal assessment but participants are expected to complete and present individual assignments and participate in group presentations.
 
Certification
Participants who meet course completion requirements will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance issued by the Teacher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
